January 31, 2011 By Don Eberly 4 Comments

As part of our “Sneak Peek” series, Linge Roset, an international contemporary furnishings company based in France, will be showing the “Ottoman” collection at the 2011 New York Architectural Digest Home Design Show. The Ottoman arm chair, designed by Noé Duchaufour-Lawrence, is an “all-foam” chair available in a swivel or fixed base. Inspiration for the design stemmed from the traditional Moroccan ottoman. Architectural Digest Home Design Show “Sneak Peek”: Scott Daniel Design

January 28, 2011 By Don Eberly 4 Comments

Scott Daniel Design, located in Brooklyn, NY, is the sole creator of Cmesh. Cmesh is defined as a ceramic medium with a metal skeleton structure. It was developed through an experimental process by fusing materials such as clay and metal. What makes Cmesh unique is through extensive research and testing to “mesh” the materials Scott Daniel created a whole new way to light up rooms.

The process begins with bending and manipulating metal wire into a distinct shape, which is then repeatedly immersed into liquid clay. The drying method is what gives the fixture its finished look. Various factors such as room temperature, humidity and consistency of the clay influence how the piece’s surface will turn out.

Once the piece is dry, it’s then placed in a kiln to finalize process. From start to finish, each fixture takes about 2-3 weeks to complete. The lengthy procedure of making the light fixture is what makes Cmesh lights so irresistible! Visit www.scottdanieldesign.com for more extraordinary designs.

Architectural Digest Home Design Show “Sneak Peek”: Solinglass

January 27, 2011 By Don Eberly Leave a Comment

The Window Series from Solinglass is remarkably different from the company’s other studio collections. Based more on depth than surface, the lightness and breath in the coloration encourages the viewer to explore the uniqueness of the collection from various angles.

This particular piece from the Window Series, Pashmina Cintura, is free blown glass off the pipe, sculpted with cork paddles and creased with a handmade blade which was fabricated specifically for this piece. The multicolored and one-of-a-kind ornament contains fine silver foil directly from Japan. A combination of colors ranging from ruby, apricot, gold and green allows light to pass through giving the viewer a truly intense experience.

Randi Solin, founder and artist of Solinglass, incorporates techniques found in both classic Venetian glassblowing and the American Art Glass movement, but allows her own creativity to shape her artwork. Randi’s work has been acquired by the permanent collections of The White House, The United States Embassies in Algeria and Guinea, and has been seen in a number of solo and group shows in galleries and museums across the country. For more information on Solinglass, visit the studio’s website at http://www.solinglass.com/.

Architectural Digest Home Design Show “Sneak Peek”: TON Art, LLC

January 24, 2011 By Don Eberly 2 Comments

Speakers or art, the difference is almost invisible. TON Art, LLC has created an intriguing line of audio speakers disguised as beautiful sculptures. Collaborated by artists, designers and craftspeople, each sculpture is made from marble and fiberglass, epoxy and fabric, metal, wood and gold.

President and founder of TON Art, LLC, Frank Burgel, came up with the idea of “Art Speakers” while installing generic loudspeakers in his home filled with contemporary, modern art. The collection is designed to complement room themes rather than stand out like a white elephant! These speaker sculptures may very well be the embodiment of perfectly combined form and function for home and commercial space design.

As if being an artful creation that offers full functionality is not enough, each sculpture has advanced speaker technology to radiate harmonious sounds from most any sound system. For more information on TON Art, LLC, visit the company’s website at www.tonartllc.com or call 877-822-2040.

January 21, 2011 By Don Eberly 10 Comments

The Richard Frinier Collection from Brown Jordan is straight from heaven. Inspired by the question “What would happen if you had the time to be still and allow your mind to drift…would it feel like you were on cloud nine?”, the collection evolved into three distinct designs, simply named Still, Drift, and Cloud Nine. Each of the designs will be introduced at the 2011 New York Architectural Digest Home Design Show this spring.

As part of ECPR’s “Sneak Peek” series for the show, the Drift collection is a stunning compilation of indoor and outdoor furniture. Plantation-grown teak frames are hand- and machine-crafted with a fine hand-sanded finish. Available in two colors, Natural and soft Grey, each piece will age gracefully in time, enhancing its overall appearance. Drift’s dynamic design features dining and deep seating pieces: arm chair, lounge chair, ottoman, sectional lounge chair and ottoman, and an adjustable chaise lounge. Architectural Digest Home Design Show “Sneak Peek”: Nick Davis Art

January 19, 2011 By Don Eberly Leave a Comment

Allowing emotional reactions to the modern day economic situation, natural disasters, and political and ideological upheaval for motivation, British artist, Nick Davis was able to channel and capture the beauty of destruction. With his new line debuting at the 2011 New York Architectural Digest Home Design Show, Nick’s work is sure to be one of the show’s highlights.

The Fragmentation Table, as seen in this blog post, is a cast bronze table creating the illusion of an earthquake shattering the ground to pieces. Polished in a high finish, the table stands about 40cm tall and has a width of 94cm. Nick Davis’ Fragmentation Tables can also be created in cast silver upon commission request.

In addition to the Fragmentation Tables, Nick offers a number of other incredible pieces such as his unique Tower Lamps, Saddle Stool, and Geometric Table. For more information on Nick Davis’ designs, visit his website at www.nickdavisart.com.

Architectural Digest Home Design Show “Sneak Peek”: Haddonstone

January 13, 2011 By Don Eberly 4 Comments

Haddonstone, considered the U.S.’s and U.K.’s leading manufacturer of fine cast stone landscape features, is preparing to launch a new collection of busts and statues at the 2011 New York Architectural Digest Home Design Show this coming spring. Many of the company’s pieces are re-creations of famous collections throughout Europe. For example, the marble statue featured on our blog, Apollo Belvedere. This stunning statue is modeled after Leochares’ original, located at the Vatican Museum in Italy. The Apollo statue embodies masculinity and beauty, a perfect combination to feature as an indoor focal point or in a European garden setting.

Additionally, Haddonstone has once again partnered up with Robert A.M. Stern Designs to launch two new series of pedestals, the Olympian and Athenian, which will also be featured at ADHDS. The Olympian Planter Collection includes two graceful bowls, two elegant urns and a tall, slim amphora. Each piece in the collection is designed to interpret the unadulterated shapes of ancient vessels from the Neoclassic era from a more clean and contemporary perspective. The three designs from the Olympian Pedestal Collection have been molded to represent the Ionic column designs from ancient Greece.

The Athenian Planter Collection includes numerous urns in two designs, stimulated by the pure forms of Art Deco and Art Moderne ornaments from the early twentieth century. The Athenian Pedestal Collection is comprised of three elegant, tall plinths. When paired together, the Planter and Pedestal Collections can complete a unique theme for any indoor or outdoor design.

Both collections by Haddonstone and Robert A.M. Stern Designs are suitable for formal and romantic gardens as well in modern landscape designs. Furthermore, the Olympian and Athenian Collections can be showcased in not only residential areas but can also be used for commercial and indoor design.

The extensive collection from Haddonstone is available online or by catalog. For more information visit the company’s website at http://www.haddonstone.com/.
